Vented Screw

The vented screw is a key component of the vented extruder. The vented extruder is suitable for processing plastic granules or powders with volatile substances. Vented extruders eliminate the drying process and improve product quality.

The structure of a vented screw consists of two conventional screws attached to a vent section structure with venting capabilities. The extruded material needs to be plasticised by the first stage screw, then vented by the vent section, then plasticised and extruded by the second stage screw. Since it has a longer length to diameter ratio than a normal screw, it usually has an L/D ratio of 24 or more, and a maximum of 43. With a large L/D ratio, the screw speed can be increased, so the machine can produce more.
